New Brunswick Coins, 1861-64
Half cent coins weigh 2.84 grams with a diameter of 20.65 mm and have a composition of .95 copper, .04 tin, .01 zinc.
One cent coins weigh 5.67 grams with a diameter of 25.53 mm and have a composition of .95 copper, .04 tin, .01 zinc.
Five cent coins weigh 1.16 grams with a diameter of 15.49 mm and have a composition of .950 silver, .075 copper. Ten cent coins weigh 2.32 grams with a diameter of 17.91 mm and have a composition of .925 silver, .075 copper.
Twenty cent coins weigh 4.65 grams with a diameter of 23.27 mm and have a composition of .925 silver, .075 copper.
The obverse for the half cent is the same as the British farthing and the reverse is a royal crown with a rose/mayflower wreath similar to that used for Nova Scotia. The one cent piece has the same obverse as the British halfpenny and a reverse similar to that of the one used for Nova Scotia. The designs for the five cent piece were basically those of the Province of Canada with a modified obverse legend. The ten cent piece was adapted from that of the Province of Canada with the legend on the obverse the only change. The obverse for the twenty cent piece utilizes the Province of Canada twenty cent portrait with only the legend being the only change.
